Preliminary YF&R summer conference schedule released
Note: The final conference schedule has been added below Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee has released a preliminary schedule of events for the group’s summer conference July 10-11 in Stillwater. The conference will be held at the Best Western Cimarron Hotel & Suites. The conference will include workshops at the hotel as well as on-site tours in the Stillwater area. Registration for the conference is $25 per person. Registration plus a hotel room for one night at the host hotel is $150. OKFB communications staff win national awards
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Corporate Communications Division won top communications awards at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Strategic Policy, Advocacy, Resources and Communications Conference June 16 through 18 in Charlotte, North Carolina. OKFB trains Oklahoma youth in agriculture, leadership
The Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture conference was held at the OKFB home office June 10-12. The conference is a three-day event hosted by OKFB’s Young Farmers and Ranchers. Participants of the conference were high school seniors selected through an application process. The students selected represent some of Oklahoma’s most promising high school agriculturalists. OYLA is aimed at not only preparing young people to be future leaders of Farm Bureau, but also of the Oklahoma agriculture industry as a whole, said Holly Carroll, YF&R coordinator. American Farm Bureau releases detailed analysis of Waters of the U.S. rule
The American Farm Bureau Federation released documents outlining how the EPA’s Waters of the U.S. rule will give the agency sweeping powers to regulate land use despite a body of law clearly prohibiting such overreach. The Farm Bureau analysis, now available online, makes available to the public details the EPA has refused to address in public meetings over the past year. OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee hosts Youth Safety Day
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee hosted its first Safety Day on June 4 at the OKFB home office in Oklahoma City. At the event, 12- to 17-year-old youth from around the state learned ATV safety, fire safety, DUI prevention, poison control and more. “We want our children, our young people, and even parents to be aware of safety,” said Kitty Beavers, chair of the OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee. Throughout the day, students cycled through stations that focused on safety in various situations. OKFB releases full tally of state legislators’ agricultural votes
Oklahoma Farm Bureau released its full legislative scorecard, calculating state legislators’ voting percentage on important agricultural and rural bills. OKFB calculates the voting percentages each year following the conclusion of the Oklahoma legislative session. Important bills affecting agriculture and rural Oklahoma are selected during the legislative process to be scored. Each vote is calculated according to whether OKFB supported or opposed a bill, and legislators are positively scored for voting in accordance with the OKFB’s stance on each piece of legislation.
