The Oklahoma Farm Bureau board of directors has announced the members of the 2015 OKFB 100 Percent Club. Buckner promoted to senior VP of operations
Gary Buckner has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations for Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Affiliated Companies. Buckner, former Vice President of Claims for OKFB Mutual Insurance Company, takes over an expanded and redefined position following the untimely passing of Robert Peeler, Vice President of FB Building Corp. Buckner’s new responsibilities include managing the building’s infrastructure, company vehicle fleet and the Information Systems department. Farm Bureau selects nine students to receive college scholarships
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee selected nine Oklahoma high school seniors to receive $1,000 scholarships to pursue agricultural degrees. Students receiving scholarships are: Megan Trantham, Boise City, District 1; Tucker Sawatzky, Weatherford, District 2; Madison Reasnor, Cashion, District 3; Samantha Howe, Sulphur, District 4; Bay Bolen, Idabel, District 5; Hallie Barnes, Hulbert, District 6; Lakan Light, Enid, District 7; Kase Donor, Konawa, District 8; and Colton Pratz, Stillwater, District 9. “The U.S. House of Representatives’ bipartisan vote to repeal the EPA’s proposed Waters of the U.S. rule sends a strong signal that farmers, ranchers, and other landowners will not tolerate the heavy hand of federal agencies dictating unnecessary and burdensome regulations. “Obviously, the grass-roots involvement of Farm Bureau members voicing strong opposition to WOTUS had an impact. “The WOTUS proposal would have created a land use management nightmare, restricting our ability to grow food and fiber. “We applaud the House for stopping the proposal and urge President Obama to support the repeal.”
Oklahoma House of Representatives approves amended Right to Farm resolution
Today the Oklahoma House of Representatives overwhelming approved Senate amendments to HJR 1012, Right to Farm. The vote was 85 to 7. “We are extremely pleased with the vote,” said Tom Buchanan, Oklahoma Farm Bureau president. “We applaud State Rep. Scott Biggs and State Sen. Jason Smalley for their leadership and tenacity guiding this resolution through the legislative process. Farm bill implementation, EPA overregulation and national security were among the top concerns for the 53 Oklahoma Farm Bureau members and staff who attended the annual OKFB Congressional Action Tour in Washington D.C. Former Oklahoma Farm Bureau board member Joe Mayer received the Governor’s Outstanding Achievement Award in Agriculture today at the state Capitol. Farm Bureau wants ag department to stop movement of wild hogs
The state’s largest farm organization is calling upon the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to immediately enact emergency rules to stop the movement of wild hogs in Oklahoma. “We believe ODAFF has the regulatory authority to take immediate action today to stop movement of these feral swine,” said Tom Buchanan, president of Oklahoma Farm Bureau. “ODAFF should take action by using their emergency rulemaking power.
