Oklahoma Farm Bureau this week has joined a group of statewide business, medical, faith and community leaders in opposing State Question 788 on the June 26 primary ballot. SQ 788 would amend Oklahoma state statutes to legalize medical marijuana. OKFB joined the SQ 788 is Not Medical Coalition, following a vote by the organization’s board of directors. The OKAgFund, Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s political action committee, has endorsed 22 candidates and donated to 71 candidates running for election in statewide, state Senate and state House races. The OKAgFund board met Friday, May 18, to donate a total of $63,000 to candidates and to choose candidates for endorsement based on input from farmers and ranchers across Oklahoma. Texas County Farm Bureau member Joe Mayer of Guymon, Oklahoma, has been appointed by Gov. Mary Fallin and confirmed by the Oklahoma Senate to serve a four-year term as a member of the State Board of Agriculture. The State Board of Agriculture both promotes and regulates agriculture in Oklahoma. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to encourage the U.S. Trade Representative to negotiate a better deal on behalf of America’s farmers and ranchers during a public comment period on trade dispute with China. American farmers and ranchers are already facing low commodity prices and the uncertainty of a ‘trade war’ drives prices even lower hurting farmers and ranchers and rural communities. Travel to Washington, D.C. with Farm Bureau April 16-20
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members will travel to Washington, D.C., April 16-20 to promote agriculture and rural Oklahoma during the organization’s annual Congressional Action Tour. The weeklong trip allows members to bring the concerns of Oklahoma farmers and ranchers to Capitol Hill. Members will meet with Oklahoma’s Congressional delegation, along with officials of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
