Oklahoma Farm Bureau members have set the organization’s legislative priorities ahead of Oklahoma’s 2024 legislative session. These priority issues, designed to guide the work of Farm Bureau members and staff at the state Capitol, are broken down into four primary focus areas, including rural infrastructure, Oklahoma’s future, agricultural production and taxation. Rural Infrastructure Farm Bureau members have long supported the expansion of high-speed internet and wireless phone service in Oklahoma’s most rural areas. Both are critical technological tools to ensure rural Oklahoma stays vibrant for years to come. Continued vibrance in rural communities coincides with a thriving rural economy and […]

OKFB praises attorney general for defending wage determination process
Oklahoma Farm Bureau applauds Attorney General Gentner Drummond for his efforts to uphold Oklahoma’s constitutional process to determine fair wages through his opposition to Initiative Petition 446, which would be put to a vote of the people as State Question 832. Drummond filed a brief Thursday with the Oklahoma Supreme Court in support of the OKFB Legal Foundation’s challenge to Initiative Petition 446, which would establish the state question to raise minimum wage. Drummond sided with the OKFB Legal Foundation in the brief, calling the measure “an unconstitutional delegation of legislative authority” with intent to delegate legislative power to a […]
OKFB Legal Foundation files court protest to protect Oklahoma’s agricultural and rural economies
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation joined efforts with The State Chamber to file a protest with the state’s highest court Monday, Nov. 20 against Initiative Petition 446, which would establish a state question to raise Oklahoma’s minimum wage. The initiative seeks to double the minimum wage by 2029 and increase it annually beginning in 2030 based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers. This change would remove the responsibility of determining a minimum wage from the Oklahoma legislature and instead tie it to national economic projections that do not accurately reflect Oklahoma’s economy. “Taking […]

OKFB members urged to comment on EPA proposed herbicide strategy
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to submit their concerns about the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed herbicide strategy before the Oct. 22 comment period deadline. EPA released the Draft Herbicide Strategy Framework in July in response to extensive litigation from environmental groups about EPA’s noncompliance with the Endangered Species Act. The proposed framework is EPA’s attempt to protect some 900 endangered species and their habitats through significant use restrictions and mitigations on most agricultural herbicide uses. Growers located in pesticide use limitation areas – or PULAs – which include many parts of Oklahoma, could be subject to even greater restrictions. […]
