Twelve Oklahoma high school students recently were chosen to attend the Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture leadership conference to be held July 23-25 in Oklahoma City. The OYLA conference is a three-day annual event hosted by OKFB’s Young Farmers & Ranchers to prepare high school students for a future career in agriculture and to advance youth leadership. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee is now accepting applications for its Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture program held July 23-25, 2018 in Oklahoma City. OYLA is a unique three-day summer leadership conference designed for high school students completing their senior year in 2019. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers will host its annual summer conference July 13-15 at the Quartz Mountain Resort in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. OKFB members ages 18-35 are invited to attend the three-day conference to meet fellow young farmers and ranchers from across the state, tour local agricultural facilities, and learn more about YF&R leadership opportunities and programs. All conference participants will be entered into a drawing to win a free trip to Washington, D.C. for the 2019 OKFB Congressional Action Tour. YF&R to host high school discussion meet during OSU Big 3 Field Days
High school FFA and 4-H members are invited to compete in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers High School Discussion Meet held Tuesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. during the Oklahoma State University Big 3 Field Days. Held in Agricultural Hall on the OSU campus in Stillwater, the competitive event provides students with an educational opportunity to enhance their speaking, reasoning and presentation skills, all while analyzing issues in agriculture. YF&R raise more than $6,000 at annual golf tournament
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers raised more than $6,000 at their annual golf tournament to help fire relief efforts for rural Oklahomans and support the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation. The tournament was held Friday, May 4, at Cedar Valley Golf Club in Guthrie. Fifteen teams competed in the scramble-style tournament, which is coordinated by the OKFB YF&R state committee. The Cleveland County Farm Bureau team won first place with Kent Washburn, Marty Fuller, Jim Packer and Freddy Wisdom. Lexi Vanderwork, a Woodward High School senior, has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee. The scholarship is presented to high school seniors pursuing a degree in agriculture at an accredited Oklahoma institute of higher learning. After graduating in May, Vanderwork plans to study agribusiness at Oklahoma State University.
