Oklahoma Farm Bureau partnered with the Petroleum Alliance, Oklahoma Pork Council, the Poultry Federation and Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association to host the Ag & Oil Legislative Bootcamp for freshman legislators Wednesday, Jan. 8.
19 freshman legislators joined the industry groups to learn more about the impact agriculture and energy production has on Oklahoma. Legislators had the opportunity to pose questions to a lineup of speakers to garner a deeper understanding of both industries as they make plans for the upcoming legislative session.
Shannon Ferrell, associate professor of agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University, shared with lawmakers the impact agriculture has on Oklahoma.
An agriculture panel moderated by Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur featured OKFB member Monte Tucker of Tucker Family Farms, OKFB member Brent Bolen of Bolen Farms and Brett Ramsey of Blue and Gold Sausage. Each shared the story of their own operation within the cattle, poultry and swine industry, and answered questions from legislators.
