Oklahoma Farm Bureau is set to host the first-ever Youth Legislative Experience July 12-13, 2022, at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City.
The Youth Legislative Experience will bring together high school juniors and seniors from 4-H and FFA to learn about the Oklahoma legislative process and how a bill becomes a law.
“The Oklahoma Youth Legislative Experience is a fantastic way for high school students to get a real-world taste of the legislative process in Oklahoma,” said Rodd Moesel, OKFB president. “The opportunity to act as a legislator and meet elected officials in the actual chambers where laws are passed is an experience they will likely never forget.”
During the two-day experience, students will write and discuss legislation through committee work and floor sessions as part of a mock legislature held in the legislative chambers of the Oklahoma state Capitol.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and network with current and former state lawmakers throughout the event and will participate in a community service activity at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
Cost for the Youth Legislative Experience is $50 and will cover meals and lodging at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel. Registration opens at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12 at the Capitol, and the event concludes the following afternoon.
Interested students should contact their agricultural education teacher or Extension educator for more information. Students must fill out an application and be selected by their organization to attend.
