Rep. Frank Lucas of Oklahoma is the recipient of the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2024 Distinguished Service Award. Lucas will be recognized during the upcoming 2024 American Farm Bureau Convention, Jan. 19-24, held in Salt Lake City, Utah. The award is among the highest honors presented by AFBF. Lucas is a fifth-generation Oklahoman and farmer who has been a defender of agriculture for more than 40 years. Pfeiffer appointed to Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board
Logan County Farm Bureau member Gaye Pfeiffer has been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. Pfeiffer’s appointment was announced January 2 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was one of 26 members appointed to serve on the board. Twenty-five members will serve three-year terms and one member will serve a one-year term. The term of board members appointed to three-year terms start February 2024 and end February 2027. Harmon named senior director of Young Farmers & Ranchers
Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Burton Harmon as the organization’s senior director of Young Farmers and Ranchers. In his new position, Harmon will work alongside OKFB’s grassroots-elected YF&R Committee to coordinate programs and events for Oklahoma agriculturalists ages 18-35 to help young Farm Bureau members develop their leadership, advocacy and business skills. OKFB praises attorney general for defending wage determination process
Oklahoma Farm Bureau applauds Attorney General Gentner Drummond for his efforts to uphold Oklahoma’s constitutional process to determine fair wages through his opposition to Initiative Petition 446, which would be put to a vote of the people as State Question 832. Drummond filed a brief Thursday with the Oklahoma Supreme Court in support of the OKFB Legal Foundation’s challenge to Initiative Petition 446, which would establish the state question to raise minimum wage. Private applicators license recertification deadline is Dec. 31
Oklahoma Farm Bureau encourages farmers and ranchers who hold a private applicators license to recertify their licenses that may be up for renewal. Holders of private applicators licenses in the state of Oklahoma who received a renewal notification letter from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry need to recertify their licenses that are up for renewal either by mail or online process by December 31, 2023. OKFB Foundation for Agriculture awards local schools with $10,000 greenhouse grants
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture recently selected Roland Public Schools and Navajo Public Schools to receive the $10,000 Growing with the Foundation grant. OKFB Legal Foundation files court protest to protect Oklahoma’s agricultural and rural economies
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation joined efforts with The State Chamber to file a protest with the state’s highest court Monday, Nov. 20 against Initiative Petition 446, which would establish a state question to raise Oklahoma’s minimum wage. The initiative seeks to double the minimum wage by 2029 and increase it annually beginning in 2030 based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers.
