J.T. and Sara Bain were named the winners of Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award on Nov. 14 at OKFB’s 73rd Annual Convention in Tulsa. The award recognizes successful young adults ages 35 years or younger who are involved in farming but whose primary occupations are not farming or owning an agricultural business. Brent Haken of Payne County was named the 2014 Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet winner at the Oklahoma Farm Bureau 73rd Annual Meeting Nov. 14 in Tulsa. Haken competed against three other participants in three rounds of debate-style discussion where performance was evaluated on the exchange of ideas and information on pre-determined topics. Garfield County Farm Bureau receives top county award
Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Garfield County as the John I. Taylor Award winner for 2014. The announcement was made at the OKFB 73rd Annual Convention Nov. 14 in Tulsa. The John I. Taylor Award is named after OKFB’s first president and serves as the organization’s highest county honor. County winners are required to earn the Four-Star Presidential Award and excel in at least six different program areas. Garvin County Farm Bureau recognized for political education
Oklahoma Farm Bureau presented Garvin County with the Lewis H. Munn Farm Bureau Builders Award during the OKFB 73rd Annual Convention on Nov. 14 in Tulsa. The award is named after the second president of Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and each year a specific area of involvement is judged for the award. This year’s area was political education. Garvin County established a committee to develop areas of political education that would benefit not only Farm Bureau members but also the general public. Noble County honored with top county Young Farmers and Ranchers award
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Noble County Young Farmers and Ranchers committee is the 2014 recipient of the Charles L. Roff Award. The award was presented in Tulsa at the OKFB 73rd Annual Meeting Nov. 14. The Charles L. Roff Award encourages county YF&R groups to improve their local committees and activity participation while strengthening the Farm Bureau organization. OKFB Young Farmers and Ranchers name high school discussion meet winner
Seth McLaughlin of Prague was the winner of the first high school discussion meet held by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers. Kalee Horn, Edmond; Summer Stevens, Perry; and Camy Daniel, Amber-Pocasset, were the other three finalists. Oklahoma Farm Bureau submits comments on proposed WOTUS rule
Oklahoma Farm Bureau submitted comments today in response to the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed rule to define “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act. OKFB fire safety trailer saves lives
A recent house fire in rural Beckham County proved the value of Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s fire safety training when 11-year-old Aiden Brown put into practice what he had learned during a demonstration at his school. The fifth grader, and his 7-year-old sister Abigail, had just returned home from school when Aiden discovered the fire and quickly made sure his sister was safely outside when he alerted the fire department. Online registration is now open for the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 96th Annual Convention and IDEAg Trade Show, which will be held Jan. 10-14, 2015, in San Diego. Before registering online, farmer and rancher members should check with their state Farm Bureau office to see if they have already been registered.
