OKFB leaders pass resolutions on water, wind energy, EPA and USDA
Resolutions to study water transportation in Oklahoma, support wind energy and stop federal agency over regulation were among resolutions passed by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau state resolutions committee during their two-day meeting Oct. 21-22 in Norman. Oklahoma Farm Bureau will be hosting a tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 25, for U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe to celebrate America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration at Oklahoma State University. The tailgate will be held in the parking lot directly north of the Wes Watkins International Trade Center, at the corner of Hall of Fame Avenue and Washington Street, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oklahoma State University will be playing West Virginia University at 3 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium. Six farm families nominated for state contest
Six Oklahoma Farm Bureau families from across the state have been nominated for the prestigious Farm Family of the Year award. The winner will be announced during the OKFB Annual Meeting in November and will receive a plaque and an expense-paid trip to the 2015 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. OKFB is pleased to welcome Attorney General Scott Pruitt to the 2014 Annual Meeting as a keynote speaker. Pruitt will speak during the opening session of convention on Friday, Nov. 14, at 1:30 p.m. Scott Pruitt was elected the attorney general of Oklahoma in November 2010. Peterson Farm Brothers to entertain at OKFB Convention
The Peterson Farm Brothers, young agriculture enthusiasts and expert parody song writers, will entertain Oklahoma Farm Bureau members at the 2014 Annual Meeting in Tulsa on Saturday, Nov. 15. Greg, Nathan and Kendal Peterson make up the Peterson Farm Brothers trio. The siblings farm together with their parents near Assaria, Kansas, where they raise beef cattle and grow wheat, corn, alfalfa, milo and soybeans. The Farm Service Agency will be holding informational meetings regarding the implementation of the 2014 Farm Bill, October through December, across the state. Oklahoma Farm Bureau partners with governor’s food drive
County Farm Bureau offices across Oklahoma are once again serving as drop-off locations for Gov. Mary Fallin’s fifth annual Feeding Oklahoma Drive. The goal of the food and fund drive is to raise enough food and funds to provide 2 million meals to help feed families, children and seniors in the state. On Thursday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m., YF&R will host the inaugural high school discussion meet for FFA and 4-H members throughout the state to take part in as an educational and résumé-building experience. Ag community saddened by passing of Bart McSpadden
Last week, we were notified of the passing of Bart McSpadden. For the past 18 years Bart has worked as a lobbyist and partner with McSpadden and Associates and during that time he has represented the interests of Oklahoma’s pork producers and the Oklahoma Pork Council. Bart is survived by his wife Kate, children Noah, Chloe, Tucker, and Luke, and his mother Donna McSpadden. After his father, Clem McSpadden, passed away in 2008, Bart continued the family lobbying firm along with his nephew James McSpadden.
