The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers raised $15,595 for the OKFB Foundation for Agriculture during the 2023 YF&R Shotgun Shoot Fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 27, at Silverleaf Shotgun Sports near Guthrie. More than 34 teams with 136 shooters participated in the sporting-clays-style tournament across 12 stations that tested their skills mimicking real-world hunting scenarios. OKFB launches customized development program for Oklahoma businesses
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Oklahoma Grassroots Rural and Ag Business Accelerators program has launched a new customized development program with six Oklahoma companies in the inaugural cohort. The customized development program provides tailored resources and mentorship plans in the form of three to four action items for companies that have already completed at least 60% of the work covered by the existing Activate Oklahoma rural development pipeline or Cultivate Oklahoma agricultural innovation pipeline. OKFB Foundation for Agriculture accepting donations for Hawaii wildfire relief
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture is accepting donations to assist farmers and ranchers in Hawaii after recent wildfires ravaged parts of Maui and the Big Island. More than 2,000 structures and thousands of acres have been destroyed in the town of Lahaina as a result of the early August wildfires. However, the devastation spreads beyond Lahaina into other parts of the island of Maui, including the rural town of Kula, where the wildfire is only 75% contained and has destroyed hundreds of acres of pastureland, crops, agricultural structures and equipment. OKFB WLC awards three scholarships to nursing students
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee has awarded three $500 scholarships to students from Farm Bureau member families who are pursuing a career in nursing. Oklahoma Farm Bureau is teaming up with the Oklahoma State Chamber Research Foundation to host an informal luncheon on Tuesday, Aug. 22 to dissect the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s proposed rule on temperature regulations for outdoor and indoor occupations. OSHA’s Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings seeks to establish heat-specific workplace standards for all industries, including agricultural occupations. Oklahoma Water Resources Board set to host stakeholder input meetings across the state
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to attend the Oklahoma Water Resources Board’s upcoming stakeholder input meetings this month. As the largest user of water in Oklahoma, it is crucial for agriculture to have a voice in these meetings. The stakeholder meetings will center on the impending updates to Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Water Plan with discussions on water policy, future water supply and demand, water challenges and more. OKFB names Westwood senior public policy consultant
Oklahoma Farm Bureau has named Kinsey Westwood senior public policy consultant in the organization’s public policy division. Westwood will help implement OKFB’s member-driven grassroots advocacy efforts to support Oklahoma’s agriculture community. Application now open for the 2023 Oklahoma Leopold Conservation Award
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture is proud to join the Sand County Foundation to recognize Oklahoma agriculturists who work to improve soil health, water resources and wildlife habitats within their operation. Applications and nominations are now open for the 2023 Oklahoma Leopold Conservation Award. Recipients receive a $10,000 award for their dedication to conserving and preserving soil, water resources and wildlife habitats. Nominations may be submitted on behalf of a landowner, or landowners may apply themselves. Applications are reviewed by an independent panel of agricultural and conservation leaders from Oklahoma. YF&R members gather for summer conference in Oklahoma City
More than 50 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers gathered in Oklahoma City for the YF&R Summer Conference July 28-30. Farm Bureau members ages 18-35 toured local agricultural facilities, competed in a discussion meet and networked with fellow farmers and ranchers during the three-day event. Kelsey and Morgan Pfeiffer of Pfeiffer Farms shared their unique goat operation on the first stop of the tour.
