Oklahoma Farm Bureau is excited to host the third-annual Community Food Assistance Matching Program to connect county Farm Bureaus with their community. The program provides matching funds up to $100 for county Farm Bureaus that donate to a food assistance program. County Farm Bureaus can receive matching funds for donating to local food banks, food pantries, meals on wheels and other food assistance programs with a food donation, food drive or monetary donation. Nearly 60 Oklahoma Farm Bureau members advocated for agriculture and rural Oklahoma in the nation’s capital during OKFB’s Washington, D.C. Summit March 27-31. WLC hosts annual Farm City Festival March 21
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee provided meals to more than 400 legislators, staff and visitors at the Oklahoma State Capitol Tuesday, March 21, during the committee’s annual Farm City Festival. Legislative Update: hazard mitigation districts, medical marijuana growers license
This week was a busy one at 23rd and Lincoln as the Legislature was up against the second major deadline of the session. Thursday was the final day for bills to be passed off the floor of their chamber of origin. Following the first deadline at the beginning of the month, around 1,000 bills were still left for consideration. OKFB supports ag youth at 2023 OYE
Oklahoma Farm Bureau proudly supported Oklahoma’s agriculture youth at the 2023 Oklahoma Youth Expo with more than $60,000 of premium purchases, sponsorships and partnerships. OKFB purchased premiums during the annual OYE Sale of Champions in Oklahoma City Friday, March 17, where the organization gave out $45,000 in premium purchases to 4-H and FFA members during the sale. OKFB was also recognized at the sale as the 2022 volume buyer as the purchaser of the greatest number of premiums at last year’s sale. Oklahoma high school students completing their junior year in 2023 are invited to apply for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture conference held June 13-16 in Oklahoma City. The conference will include leadership development, knowledgeable speakers, networking opportunities and agriculture industry experience. Students selected to attend the four-day leadership conference should be excellent students at the top of their class with an interest in pursuing a post-secondary education. Legislative update: SQ 820 defeated, initiative petition and farm permits
This week was the first full week of floor work for the Oklahoma legislature. While it is technically a three-week period from the start of floor work to the March 23rd deadline for bills to be passed off the floor of their origin, next week is expected to be a light week with only two days of legislative work. OKFB, coalition helps defeat recreational marijuana state question
Oklahoma Farm Bureau, alongside a coalition of Oklahoma organizations and businesses, helped defeat SQ 820, which would have legalized recreational marijuana in the state during a special election held March 7. The question failed to pass with almost 62 percent of Oklahomans voting against the measure. SQ 820 garnered a majority “No” vote in every Oklahoma county according to data from the Oklahoma Election Board. Statewide voter turnout was recorded at just over 25 percent. Legislative Update: Non-resident driver’s licensing and hazard mitigation districts
This week marked the first major deadline for the 2023 Legislative Session. Thursday was the final day for all bills except budget bills to be passed out of their assigned committee from their chamber of origin. While numbers are not yet finalized, there are around 1,000 bills and joint resolutions left alive after the Thursday deadline.
