OKFB disappointed in poultry case decision
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are disappointed with the conclusion reached by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma today finding in favor of the state of Oklahoma and holding poultry companies liable for high phosphorous levels causing pollution in the Illinois River Watershed. For decades, Oklahoma poultry farmers have been regulated by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry which requires nutrient management plans and limits on poultry litter application. Oklahoma County Farm Bureau donates $5,000 to food bank
Oklahoma County Farm Bureau donated $5,000 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma on Jan. 12. The food bank distributes food and provides other resources to 53 counties in central and western Oklahoma through more than 1,300 partner agencies. “For every dollar donated, we can turn that into four meals for an Oklahoman living with hunger,” said Chan Klingensmith, RFBO development officer. “Annually, the food bank is able to donate over 50 million pounds of food. As another legislative session kicks off in the coming weeks, Oklahoma Farm Bureau members have set the organization’s 2023 legislative priorities to guide Farm Bureau’s work at the state Capitol. This year’s top priorities are broken down into four primary focus areas, including rural infrastructure, Oklahoma’s future, landowner advocacy and marijuana. Five Oklahoma Farm Bureau members helped set national Farm Bureau policy for the coming year during the business session of the American Farm Bureau convention Tuesday, Jan. 10 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The top issues monitored by OKFB delegates included policies addressing national farm programs in preparation for farm bill discussions that the organization anticipates will happen throughout the year. OKFB names Bartel as economic development coordinator
Oklahoma Farm Bureau recently named Amarie Bartel as the organization’s new economic development coordinator. Oklahoma Farm Bureau will send five voting delegates to represent OKFB members at the business session of the 2023 American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Puerto Rico. Farm Bureau delegates from around the country will gather on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to discuss and vote on policy proposals to determine AFBF policy for the coming year. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members ages 35-55 are encouraged to attend the second-annual Generation Bridge Winter Conference Jan. 27-28, 2023, at the Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center in Edmond.
