Oklahoma Farm Bureau and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association are set to host a gubernatorial candidate forum on agriculture Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Comanche County Fairgrounds in Lawton. Incumbent Republican candidate Gov. Kevin Stitt is confirmed to attend. Democratic candidate Joy Hofmeister has been invited but has not yet confirmed. SCOTUS hears oral arguments on California’s Proposition 12
The Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the case of National Pork Producers Council v. Ross. NPPC and the American Farm Bureau Federation filed the petition to SCOTUS last year in response to California’s Proposition 12, a regulation that sets housing requirements for pork raised for food in California. The proposition requires breeding hogs each be given 24 square feet of living space, departing from industry-standard pork production practices. Farm Bureau donates more than $60,000 to rural fire departments in battle against ongoing drought
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Fire Department Matching Program donated a total of $61,300 to rural fire departments around the state of Oklahoma. OKFB praises modified regulations on hay transport during historic drought
Governor Kevin Stitt signed an executive order Tuesday, Oct. 11 temporarily waiving many load regulations for vehicles transporting hay into Oklahoma during the state’s historic drought. The executive order expands the acceptable load width from 11 feet to 12 feet, allowing two 6-foot round bales to be loaded side-by-side. Second-grade students awarded prizes for completing OKFB Foundation for Agriculture Watermelon Challenge
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture recently selected three elementary school students to receive a cash prize for completing the foundation’s annual Watermelon Challenge. The three winning students selected at random were Ronnie L., Cordell Elementary; Audrey B., Washington Elementary; and Wyatt B., Frontier Elementary. The second-grade students each planted, grew and harvested their own watermelons to learn about agriculture and the work it takes to grow food. The OKFB Foundation for Agriculture’s Watermelon Challenge is held every year for second-grade classrooms. OKFB welcomes appropriation of additional drought-relief funds
Governor Kevin Stitt announced today his signing of HB 1006 XX, a measure allocating an additional $20 million in drought relief for Oklahoma farmers and ranchers. All seven members of Oklahoma’s delegation in the 117th United States Congress were recently honored with the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2022 Friend of Farm Bureau award for their service to agriculture, farmers and ranchers.
