Last week marked the first major committee deadline of the 2022 legislative session. All bills that passed their respective committees will continue to advance through the legislative process, while those that didn’t pass or failed to be heard are now dormant for the remainder of the session. OKFB to host Ag Tour May 4-6 in east central Oklahoma
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to attend the 2022 OKFB Ag Tour May 4-6 in the Muskogee area. The three-day tour will feature history, the way of life, the industry and commodities of the east central region. Tour stops will include a meat processing facility, the Port of Muskogee, an orchard and many more. Buses will depart for the tour from the OKFB home office in Oklahoma City, and tour attendees will stay two nights in a Muskogee-area hotel. Meals will be provided during the tour. OKFB YF&R awards ten $1,000 scholarships
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee recently awarded nine $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and one $1,000 to a Collegiate Farm Bureau member. OKFB WLC to host conference April 22-23
All Oklahoma Farm Bureau women are invited to attend the 2022 OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee Conference April 22-23 at the NCED Hotel and Conference Center in Norman. The conference will feature breakout sessions, keynote speakers, community service projects and fellowship. Child care will be available for infants to 10-year-old children, for which those interested in using this service must complete the proper registration form. OKFB members attend AFBF YF&R Leadership Conference
Nearly 20 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers attended the American Farm Bureau YF&R Leadership Conference Feb. 25-28 in Louisville, Kentucky. YF&R members from all 50 states and Puerto Rico gathered to build their leadership skills, connect with like-minded agriculturalists, grow their knowledge of agriculture and learn about the agriculture industry in Kentucky. Ottawa County Farm Bureau member Alisen Anderson was appointed to serve a two-year term on the AFBF YF&R committee, where she will assist in the coordination of YF&R events, competitive events and the Harvest for All program. The third week of Oklahoma’s legislative session was cut short due to the winter weather that made its way through the state, causing both the House and Senate to close on Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, the House was out of session on Tuesday to allow members to attend a funeral. Oklahoma farmers and ranchers bring perspectives to Washington, D.C.
Seven Farm Bureau members represented Oklahoma at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Issue Advisory Committee meetings February 17-18 in Arlington, VA. The IAC meetings bring together Farm Bureau members from across the country to discuss pertinent issues facing agriculture including energy, environmental regulations, ag labor, organic and direct marketing, technology, animal care, farm policy, water, budget and economy, federal land, food safety and market structures. Legislative Update: State budget, medical marijuana, county zoning
As we move into the third week of the 2022 legislative session, both chambers have been busy considering legislation through committee work. The first deadline of the session is approaching on March 3rd, giving the Oklahoma House of Representatives and Senate only two more weeks to pass new legislation out of its assigned committee.
