The focus at the Capitol this week was a request by Governor Stitt that resulted in HB 4455, a piece of legislation called the Large-Scale Economic Activity Development Act (LEAD Act). The LEAD Act creates incentives for businesses seeking to create enhanced economic development within Oklahoma. HB 4455 allows for a 3.4% rebate on qualified investments made by businesses in the state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma Farm Bureau is set to host the first-ever Youth Legislative Experience July 12-13, 2022, at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City. OKFB Foundation for Ag collecting donations for rural fire departments
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture is now accepting donations for rural fire departments who have been battling the spring 2022 wildfires. Drought conditions across the state continue to worsen, and in turn, fire danger continues to rise. The foundation knows fire departments are in need of assistance through these trying times and is prepared to provide financial resources for local volunteer fire departments. OKFB to host district Ag PAC meetings in May
Oklahoma Farm Bureau is set to host districtwide meetings for the OKFB Ag PAC political action committee throughout the month of May. The meetings are held to gather input from county Farm Bureau members to guide the OKFB Ag PAC’s support for candidates in the Nov. 8 election. Prior to the district meetings, the OKFB public policy team will send each county Farm Bureau a list of candidates for the upcoming election. High school students completing their junior year in 2022 are encouraged to apply for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture conference held June 14-17 in Oklahoma City. The four-day leadership conference will include special leadership classes, exciting speakers, team building and visits to agriculture-related industries. OKFB foundation’s Watermelon Challenge available for Oklahoma second-grade students
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture is hosting its second-annual Watermelon Challenge to educate Oklahoma second-grade students and families about the hard work farmers and ranchers undertake to grow food. During the challenge, students learn about growing food as they grow their very own watermelon seed from start to melon for a chance to win prizes. Schools participating in the challenge will receive 30 watermelon seed packets, an activity book and resources for lessons. Legislative Update: quiet work week, county Capitol visits
Following last week’s deadline rush, this week was unusually light for both chambers of the legislature. The Senate met for a handful of committee meetings this week, while the House canceled all but one committee meeting. Floor agendas reflected the reduced committee workload with only five bills receiving consideration on the House floor. On Tuesday, March 29, members from Canadian and Woodward counties came to Oklahoma City to meet with their legislators.
