The Texas A&M University Agricultural and Food Policy Center recently released a report over the economic impacts on agricultural producers of proposed legislation regarding the stepped-up basis and estate taxes. Based on the proposed STEP Act and the For the 99.5%, the study analyzed the potential changes for producers passing operations down from generations to generations. Oklahoma Farm Bureau does not support added taxation for farmers and ranchers. Because agriculture Is capital intensive, added taxes through the proposed stepped-up basis and estate tax changes would hinder producers from transferring operations through generations. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation recently donated $5,000 to the Coloradans for Animal Care campaign against Colorado Initiative 16, a citizen-led proposal that would have far-reaching implications for livestock producers across the country. Over the past several months, Oklahoma Farm Bureau has heard concern from members facing new challenges obtaining an agricultural sales tax exemption permit- a crucial business tool exempting nearly all inputs used in production agriculture from sales tax. OKFB, along with a broad coalition of statewide agriculture groups, worked to pass legislation this year to provide additional options to prove eligibility for the permit.
