OKFB urges support for livestock producers amid COVID-19
Oklahoma Farm Bureau this week joined 25 state Farm Bureau organizations in urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support livestock producers during the COVID-19 outbreak. Farmers and ranchers from across the state had an opportunity to express their concerns surrounding the impact of the coronavirus during a recent conference call with Sen. James Lankford and Oklahoma Farm Bureau leaders. After the U.S. Senate passed a historic $2 trillion coronavirus aid package late Wednesday, March 25, Lankford shared with OKFB members some of the tenets of the package including additional borrowing authority for the Commodity Credit Corp. and aid for livestock and specialty crop producers. Agriculture deemed critical infrastructure in federal guidelines
Gov. Kevin Stitt this week issued a fourth amendment to Executive Order 2020-07 requiring the closure of all non-essential businesses located in Oklahoma counties that contain COVID-19 cases. The governor is adhering to federal guidelines for essential businesses, which designate food and agriculture as one of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors during emergency situations. Gov. YF&R scholarship application deadline extended
The deadline for students to apply to receive one of nine $1,000 college scholarships from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee has been extended to April 30, 2020. Nine $1,000 scholarships, one from each OKFB district, will be awarded to high school seniors pursuing a career in agriculture at an Oklahoma institution of high learning as a full-time student.
