The 2020 legislative session quickly hit high gear and is now running at a rapid pace. Six legislators honored with 2019 OKFB Champion Award
Six of Oklahoma’s top advocates for agriculture and rural Oklahoma were presented with the 2019 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Champion Award during the organization’s leadership conference held Feb. 17-18 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. 2020 OKFB Congressional Action Tour registration open through Feb. 28
Update: 2020 OKFB Congressional Action Tour cancelled March 12, 2020 Out of an abundance of caution, the Oklahoma Farm Bureau board of directors has decided to cancel the 2020 OKFB Congressional Action Tour trip to Washington, D.C., along with the planned add-on trip to New York City. Due to the ongoing health situation surrounding the Coronavirus and COVID-19, especially in the cities of Washington, D.C., and New York City, the trip will not be held during its planned dates, March 26-29, 2020. County Farm Bureaus across the state will celebrate and promote the grassroots organization during Farm Bureau Week held Feb. 17 through Feb. 21. OKFB encourages rural Oklahomans to participate in 2020 Census
Oklahoma Farm Bureau is urging rural residents across the state to complete the 2020 Census to ensure a complete and accurate count of rural Oklahoma. Invitations to participate in the 2020 Census will begin arriving at households across the state in mid-March. Legislative session is off to the races
As the second session of the 57th Oklahoma Legislature began on Monday, Feb. 3, state legislators wasted no time getting to work on more than 4,500 pieces of legislation. The session began with Gov. Kevin Stitt’s State of the State in which he highlighted opportunities to improve rural health care as well as rural roads and bridges, two areas of importance to Farm Bureau members. YF&R now accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships
Update: Deadline extended to April 30, 2020 The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee is now accepting applications for its annual $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors who will pursue a higher degree in agriculture after graduation. Nine $1,000 scholarships, one from each OKFB district, will be awarded to high school seniors pursuing a career in agriculture at an Oklahoma institution of high learning as a full-time student. OKFB’s priorities in the 2020 legislative session
With a new governor, a new administration and many new faces in the state Legislature, 2019 was filled with excitement and optimism around what seemed like the beginning of a new era in Oklahoma. A number of new ideas on agriculture and rural issues were considered by the state Legislature, but many were put on hold for further discussion.
