Crawley selected as state FSA committee chair
Oklahoma Farm Bureau District 5 State Director Gary Crawley was selected by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to serve as chairman of the Oklahoma Farm Service Agency Committee. State FSA committees are appointed for a one-year term, which began on January 1, 2018. Each state committee has five members, one chairperson and four members. FSA committee appointees for State committees are selected by the USDA Secretary, serve at the pleasure of the secretary, and are responsible for carrying out FSA’s farm programs within delegated authorities. Doye receives recognition for work on packs programs
Oklahoma Farm Bureau Interim Executive Director Thad Doye received the National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Cooperation award at the NAAE annual convention in Nashville on December 8. This award recognizes both individuals and organizations who have given outstanding support to agricultural education programs. Doye encourages Oklahoma FFA and 4-H members to donate their livestock to the state’s Pork for Packs and Beef for Backpacks programs. Donated animals are processed into protein sticks that food banks add to backpacks sent home with undernourished schoolchildren. OKFB members named to national beef board
Two Oklahoma Farm Bureau members were selected as one of 27 new members appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue on Dec. 20. Roger Mills Farm Bureau member Jimmy Taylor of Cheyenne and Grady County Farm Bureau member Blayne Arthur were selected to each serve a three-year term on the board, whcih is composed of 99 members. Three members of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers program will represent Oklahoma in national YF&R contests at the American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting Jan. 5-10 in Nashville, Tennessee. Women’s Leadership Committee, Foundation present agriculture books to teachers
Six Oklahoma teachers were presented with a basket of agriculture books during the OKFB Annual Meeting Nov. 11 in Norman, Oklahoma. OKFB members set grassroots policy for 2018
Taxes and rural healthcare were at the top of the list as Oklahoma Farm Bureau members finalized the organization’s 2018 policy during its 2017 annual meeting Nov. 10-12 in Norman, Oklahoma. OKFB’s grassroots policy begins at the county level before being refined by a state resolutions committee and finalized by the full delegate body at state convention.
