Beef producers to decide on state beef checkoff Nov. 1
Oklahoma beef producers will have the opportunity to vote for a state beef checkoff on Nov. 1, as a state-based addition to the current U.S. Beef Checkoff. The Oklahoma Beef Checkoff assessment of $1 per head would be managed by Oklahoma cattlemen and women and used to market, promote and educate consumers about beef and beef producers. Additionally, the Oklahoma Beef Checkoff will be refundable. Oklahoma would follow Texas and 14 other states who have already adopted a state beef checkoff program. Buchanan defends private property rights at House interim study
On behalf of thousands of farmers and ranchers across the state, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Tom Buchanan defended private property rights at an Oklahoma House of Representatives interim study on Oct. 10. Hosted by the House Transportation Committee, the study examined the impact of “tall structures” within military training airspace throughout Oklahoma. Some argue building obstructions, including wind turbines or communications towers, could interfere with the U.S. Air Force’s ability to conduct operations and negatively affect Oklahoma’s military bases. YF&R to host discussion meet at OKFB annual meeting
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers will host its annual discussion meet at the organization’s annual convention Nov. 10-12 in Norman, Oklahoma. The discussion meet is designed to replicate a committee meeting in which all participants are expected to discuss and actively contribute. Participants are evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic in three rounds of debate-style discussion. Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall to speak at OKFB Annual Meeting
American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall will be a keynote speaker at the 2017 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Annual Meeting, held Nov. 10-12 in Norman, Oklahoma. Serving as AFBF president since January 2016, Zippy Duvall is a third-generation farmer from Georgia. In addition to a 400-head beef cow herd for which he grows his own hay, Duvall and his wife, Bonnie, also grow more than 750,000 broilers per year. Farm Bureau women, Foundation to donate books to teachers

Each year, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers recognize members for their achievements through several awards presented at the OKFB Annual Meeting in November. OKFB YF&R members are encouraged to apply for the awards, due to the home office by Oct. 13.
